Bournemouth , Dorset UK Surfing - 550d / T2i / Kiss X4 Video
My first attempt at making a surfing video. Did a few test shots in November, and then had to wait 6 weeks until there was more surf! Shooting surfing presents different challenges from skate and snowboard. Most prevalent was the lack of angles and features to work into the shots. Luckily we are blessed in Bournemouth with the pier, which allowed for some framing and a point of reference.
First proper video made with the new Libec tripod, makes a ton of difference over the cheapo one I had before (that fell apart). Great smooth fluid head with nice resistance.
Most of the shots I used my Sigma 70-300mm, its a cheap lens, but great value for money. In contrast I also borrowed my friend Jakes Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM. Huge difference in feel and quality of the build. The auto focus is also silent, rapid and very smooth. At full zoom the Canon lens maintains colours much better than the Sigma which tends to get very milky at full whack. This wasn’t a huge issue in this video due to the grading used.
Ive found I’m addicted to the super juiced S curve look, so forced myself to do something different. Went for the look as used in the Match.com ‘I like old movies - like the Godfather - 3” advert. De saturated and vintagey. This also helped with the Sigma milk issues.
Hope you enjoy ,

Happy new year from Shred, Lies and Videotape and welcome to the first of many for 2010!
We’re kicking off this years first SLV episode with some cracking footage from one of the most frantic events from last year…the Cally Jam, held at Calshot Activity Centre in November last year.
Check out the footage from one of the UK’s smallest scenes…and enjoy the action as the riding at this jam was going off!
And with all this snow around at the moment, it would also be good to see a little action on the real stuff, so we’ve got some footage from across the pond of Nate Kern in action at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Nate did pretty well in this, the first leg of the tour, and he just missed out on a final placing.
Enjoy this episode of SLV and be prepared for many more where this came from. We hope this will whet your appetite for the coming year and some of the finest footage from the UK scene. Enjoy!
Another banging episode of UK shred for you to enjoy on shred, lies and videotape!
We’ve got some sick action from the Ski dudes at the Snow Tour brought to you by Unity Productions, so you can see some real dryslope action going down from earlier in the year.
There’s a bit of inside information for you as we get the lowdown on Calshot rail slayer Jack Labbett, and this episode, we’ve got another 30 seconds of shred skills up at MK as Billy Neilson lays out some funky for us. There’s also a little bit of James Carr to finish up with.
So enjoy the fifth episode of SLV, and don’t forget to subscribe in itunes if you fancy downloading these free UK shredcasts only from shredliesandvideotape.co.uk
