Bournemouth , Dorset UK Surfing - 550d / T2i / Kiss X4 Video
My first attempt at making a surfing video. Did a few test shots in November, and then had to wait 6 weeks until there was more surf! Shooting surfing presents different challenges from skate and snowboard. Most prevalent was the lack of angles and features to work into the shots. Luckily we are blessed in Bournemouth with the pier, which allowed for some framing and a point of reference.
First proper video made with the new Libec tripod, makes a ton of difference over the cheapo one I had before (that fell apart). Great smooth fluid head with nice resistance.
Most of the shots I used my Sigma 70-300mm, its a cheap lens, but great value for money. In contrast I also borrowed my friend Jakes Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM. Huge difference in feel and quality of the build. The auto focus is also silent, rapid and very smooth. At full zoom the Canon lens maintains colours much better than the Sigma which tends to get very milky at full whack. This wasn’t a huge issue in this video due to the grading used.
Ive found I’m addicted to the super juiced S curve look, so forced myself to do something different. Went for the look as used in the Match.com ‘I like old movies - like the Godfather - 3” advert. De saturated and vintagey. This also helped with the Sigma milk issues.

Made the drive from Bournemouth to Wilton House early Saturday morning for the Supercar Day.
Epic amount of cars there, Veyron, Mclaren F1 , Enzo , F40 , Koenigsegg , Zondas , Spykers , loads and Ferrari , Lambos, Astons and Porsches .
It was raining in the morning so I nearly didnt bring my camera. Glad I did although wish I had a tripod!
The cars started off at Thruxton, next year might head up there and get some video .

How I Installed Android 2.2 Froyo on my T-Mobile HTC Desire
So the Nexus One got Froyo at the end of June. Great! Shouldn’t be too long until the Desire gets it, I thought as the hardware is so similar. End of July and a tweet from HTC’s Regional Director, Mark Moon saying that the update was coming over the weekend. Turns out that was only for unbranded phones running the stock firmware. ‘Phones with carrier firmware would have to wait. T-Mobile a few days later said “September”. No way was I waiting that long for an update that should really only take a few days testing.
So I set about installing 1.21.405.2 firmware. This was the guide I followed:

After that I made sure Wifi , Bluetooth etc was working and ran through the setup. Then went to the SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE > SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES and hit the CHECK NOW eagerly anticipating the Frozen Yogurt goodness….. ‘YOUR PHONE IS UP TO DATE. THERE ARE NO UPDATES FOR YOUR PHONE”
Damn.

2.2 in the Software Information Screen
Big features of 2.2 Froyo are the 720p video recording, Flash 10.1, Apps to SD and the Wifi Hotspot. The claimed 450% speed increase for browsing I cant say Ive noticed massively, but pages did seem to open fully a bit quicker rather than that brief stutter a second after loading the first images.
Testing the wifi hotspot on Macbook. On HSDPA speeds were good and connection only took a few second.
Ive tested the ‘phone for a few hours, made calls, sent and received texts and emails, so I really cant understand what the delay is from T-Mobile in pushing out the OTA for 2.2 Oh well . I’m off to go enjoy some more Frozen Yogurt in the sun.
